Here is Sari. She’s the reason that I went natural in the first place…I have TONS of people that ask me all the time what made me want to “go natural” and I tell them that it’s her. I didn’t want my daughter to feel that she was obligated to be anybody other than who she is and that’s HERSELF…I wanted her to know that the only standard that she had to worry about filling was HER OWN….who cares that most people think that hair should be straight and long?! Oh well, hers is thick and CURLY…who cares that the other girls go to the hair dresser to get perms? Her hair is doing just fine with at home care and natural hair care products :) We’re making our own statement to the world that we are who we are and we won’t be changing or altering it in anyway to help you sleep better at night because we’re sleeping just fine. Grandma taught mama to love her skin….mama taught me to love my curves…and I will teach her to love her hair……#knowledge

It would actually be wrong of you to put products in her hair i.e. relaxers. I don’t feel inspired by this. She’s a toddler and thus SHOULD be natural. She probably has no idea what the purpose of hair is yet or how it contributes to the female identity. v__v

The things people do to be inspired -__-

You writing what you did makes me question if you actually have kids lol….because people who have kids KNOW that kids are way smarter than what they are giving credit for….children are DIRECT products of their environments …..they hear and see EVERYTHING even when you think they aren’t listening. Ex: I’m always walking around saying to my husband (in an inside joke) that he’s fat. I only tell him that when we get up in the morning and he spends time flexing in the mirror when I ASSUMED my daughter was sleeping…lol….So, she came in the kitchen the other day and told him that he was fat while he was flexing in the kitchen….
I gave that example to say that if I were to walk around and talk badly about my hair which I use to do (I’ve always been natural just flat ironed the heck out of my hair) she would have picked up on that like kids do…..kids aren’t BORN to think the way that they do they are TAUGHT to think a certain way…..whether parents teach them bad habits knowingly or not they are learning them…….so to say she doesn’t know just gives her intelligence the lack of credit that it deserves .. ….I raise my 2 kids assuming they already have the intelligence that I know they are highly capable of ……16 years from now we will compare notes and let’s see if I got it right :D

So, I started braiding her hair and got lazy and decided that I would just try to stretch her curls out by putting in bantu knots :D I LOVE the fact that her hair is STILL shiny and moisturized from when I washed and moisturized it before the curlformers ….

This is what it did to her lovely curls that I posted a picture of yesterday….blah…the weather here is soooo disrespectful ….lol!

But weirdly enough I don’t hate the way her hair looks …I like it all puffy and still curly, I just hate all the work that I had to go through to hold a style for a few hours. The next time I do this style will have to be in the spring/summer here when it’s dry. I don’t know what I was thinking doing these in the middle of a rainy winter.

One thing that I do LOVE though is the fact that i reached my hair goal for her :D I wanted her hair to be to the middle of her back by the time she’s two and it is!!!! but, don’t you just LOVE shrinkage??? (sarcasm of course)

This year our goal is to make it to her waist before the day she turn 3 in November. I really believe that it’s possible if I continue to take care of her hair with trimming it and moisturizing it daily like I’ve been doing. If somehow I don’t make *shrugs* oh well, as long as her hair is healthy I’m fine. I just feel that it’s better to have some type of hair goals plus she love looking at her old pics and seeing how her hair has grown…or it could be that she just loves looking at herself period…who knows when it comes to Sari lol

So, I decided to put curlformers in Sari’s hair so that she can have a new style for her first day of “toddler” school. (It’s just basically a preschool for 2 years where they teach them how to be social….a routine…pretty much stuff that I can teach her for FREE at home but, the Man wants her to get out the house and for me to get a break before the baby gets here….*sigh* I digress…)

She’s going to only be going twice a week so I figured that I would let her wear her hair out for the first day this week…and pin and tuck it away for the rest of the week until the 2nd day of class.

If you have natural hair (even if you don’t) I’m sure that you know all there is to know about curl formers….but, if for some reason you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know about them….then just Google Curlformers because it makes no sense for me to repeat to you what hundreds have already said right?? lol

Back to her hair….

When putting them in all I did was co wash her hair Vo5 Tea Therapy Conditioner (I never Shampoo her hair anymore since moving over here because it seems to dry it out like CRAZY) …mist her hair with water until it was LIGHTLY wet …then put my shea butter/castor oil mix on her hair that I’m using for the winter. That’s it….nothing more nothing less.

Her hair was actually still shiny and moisturized from the last time I styled it in the first picture that I posted but, she wanted it washed because the “ditioner” as she calls it smells good lol!

Her hair had been in this style for 2 weeks at the time :)

Eating her PB sandwich for lunch how she manages to eat just PB with nothing else and no water until she’s done still baffles me lol!

Should I feel disappointed???

Should I feel bad that I didn’t make a new year resolution??? I don’t but people look at me weird like I should lol!

I didn’t see the point in doing it really; if I’m going to change anything about myself I don’t want to have a “restriction” set on it. I feel that doing that I would be more like rushing a change that should just come naturally….cause let’s be seriously unless a person WANTS to change just saying “This year I’m going to do so and so” isn’t going to change a thing.

It’s been a LONG time tumblr :D but I’ve FINALLY gotten settled in my house in Germany (pics coming soon) ….and I’ve gone back to my thrifting ways well, as much as I can in a place where our dollar pretty much means nothing lol! I absolutely love your blog -- I peek at it a lot. ^^; I had a question for you, and it is this : how in the world did you get to go to a swap thing, and how do you get all of your phenomenal outfits? We don't have any local swap meets, etc, and since I am a student on a very, very limited budget it's difficult for me to put things together. How do you manage it? What should I be looking for?! Most clothing swaps you have to start yourself…. get a couple of friends that you know you have a lot in common with….get all the clothes together that you want to get rid of and swap away …it all starts from there and trust me it WILL grow! because let’s face if who doesn’t like swapping free clothes and accessories ??? lol :)
